CHESTER L. MANES

   Chester L. Manes, 74, of Beaverton, died Friday, June 9, 2000 at 
MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland after a short illness. Born April 27, 1926 
in Arkansas, he lived in Gladwin County the last 18 years and previously lived 
in Pontiac. Chester married Betty Mussen, Dec. 20, 1958 in Commerce. She 
preceded him in death in 1997. He was a foreman for General Motors Truck & Bus 
in Pontiac, retiring in 1977 after 26 years. He was a veteran of World War II. 
   Surviving are two daughters, Debra and husband William Johnson of Lapeer, 
and Ruth Wortman of Farwell; two sons, Jack and wife Sue Wortman of Gladwin, 
and Ronald and wife Jan Wortman of Midland; one brother, Cecil Manes of 
Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded 
in death by his parents and two brothers. 
Services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin, with Pastor 
Brad Withrow officiating. Burial was in Beaverton Cemetery. Memorial 
contributions may be made to Pontiac Eagles.
