Mapes, 72, of Beaverton, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996 at her home following a long illness. born May 26, 1924 in Muskegon, she resided in Midland before moving to Beaverton. Mrs. Mapes was a local correspondent for The Gladwin County Record for many years. She was a member of Farm Bureau, Gideons and the Grace Bible Church in Midland. The former Lucille Stear married David Mapes Sept. 3, 1943 in Ozark, Ala. Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, James and wife Cindy of Paw Paw, and Timothy and wife Diane of Stanwood; one daughter, Ann Marie and husband Jon Brittan of Hope, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Stear in 1995 and a son, Dale Mapes in 1967. Rites were held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin chapel. Pastor Doug Hadley and the Rev. David Stewart officiated and burial was in the Dale Cemetery, Tobacco Township.
