Peter Mattis died at his home in Billings township Dec. 19, 1919, after a few 
weeks illness. He was born at Canden, Ont., Oct. 5, 1850. He was married to 
Miss Mary Babcock March 2, 1884, and came to this country in April 1892. He 
lived in the city of Gladwin and in Butman many years before moving to 
Billings township. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters; P.W. 
Mattis of Bridgeport, Mich., Mrs. Levi Ostrander and Mrs. Harry Hamilton, both 
of Flint; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Henry Babcock of Gladwin, Mrs. 
Benjamin Hall of Flint, Mrs. Robert Nelson of McBain, Jacob Mattis of Napanee, 
Ont. 
   Services were held at the Billings schoolhouse Sunday afternoon at one 
o'clock and the body taken to Butman for burial.
