Born in Vuze Zahjce, Poland, on Jan. 1, 1911, he moved to Gladwin County in 1989, from Dearborn. Mr. Max retired from Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, in 1972 after 30 years in trim repair. He was a member of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, Coleman and the Pulaski Civic Club in Ecourse. Mr. Max and the former Mary Smazenska were married Feb. 16, 1935, in Detroit. She preceded him in death Aug. 21, 1992. Surviving are 4 sons, Robert and Leonard of Dearborn Heights, Arthur of Porther, Calif. and Richard of Beaverton; one daughter, Mrs. John (Judith) Klimkiewicz of Beaverton; 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald, Aug. 31, 1983 and a daughter, Loretta Max in 1939 as a child. Rites were held Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, Coleman. The Rev. Father James Heller officiated and burial was in the Beaverton Cemetery. A wake service was held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel.
