May, 73, of 303 W. Brown St., Beaverton, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1992, in the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Midland, after a long illness. Born in Grout Township, April 25, 1919, she and her husband owned May's Country Store and Gas Station in Swartz Creek from 1948 to 1955 and then farmed in Durand from 1958 to 1968. They operated the Newberry Motel from 1967 to 1969 and lived in Lake Station from 1969 to 1985 when they moved to Beaverton. The former Edna Witkoske was married to John May on Oct. 12, 1940, in Flint. Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, Rodney of Swartz Creek and Lionel of Beaverton; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (April) Schmiege of Durand and Mrs. Bill (Joy) Koss-Glover of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one brother, Arthur Witkoske of Stafford, Conn.; 4 sisters, Martha Knapp, Alma Levee and Rena Metzger of Beaverton and Pauline Scheer of Clare; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. David Stewart officiated and burial was in the Tobacco Township Cemetery.
