May, 81, of 303 W. Brown St., Beaverton, died Tuesday, March 23, in the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Gladwin, after a short illness. He was born in Richmond, Ind., March 19, 1912, and came to Gladwin County in 1985 from Lake Station where he lived from 1969 to 1985. Mr. May was a crane operator for Chevrolet Metal Fabrication in Flint for 33 years and retired in 1967. He operated May's Country Store and Gas Station from 1948 to 1955. Mr. May farmed in Durand from 1958 to 1968 and operated the Newberry Motel from 1967 to 1969. Mr. May and the former Edna Witkoske were married Oct. 12, 1940, in Flint. She preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1992. Surviving are 2 sons, Rodney of Cherokee Village, Ark. and Lionel of Beaverton; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (April) Schmiege of Durand and Mrs. Bill (Joy) Koss of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one sister, Violet Davis of New Lothrop; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Rites were held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. David Stewart officiated and burial was in the Tobacco Township Cemetery.
