McKellar, 81, well-known Beaverton resident and retired businessman, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the Clare Osteopathic Hospital following a long illness. Born in Freeland on April 27, 18797, he came to Gladwin County 40 years ago from Breckenridge. A 1928 graduate of Ferris Institute, he owned McKellar's Drug Store from 1938 to 1963. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Beaverton Presbyterian Church, the Beaverton F. & A. M. Lodge, the Beaverton Lions Club, the D.A.V. of Clare and a life member of the American Legion Post. He was a former mayor of Beaverton and also served as fire chief. Mr. McKellar and the former Doris Muscott were married on June 18, 1931, in Breckenridge. Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Harold of Saginaw, Richard of Sanford and Robert of Midland; 4 brothers, Clifford of Breckenridge, Kenneth of Clio, Elmer of Ft. Collins, Colo, and James of Jasper, Ala.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jessie Maxwell of Freeland and Mrs. Annabelle Richards of Wyandotte; and 11 grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton Chapel. The Rev. Roger Browne officiated and burial was in the Beaverton Cemetery.
