McKimmy, eldest son of Perry and Caroline McKimmy, was born in Preston county, W. Va., April 30, 1863, and passed away Jan. 17, 1917, at his home near Beaverton, Mich, aged 53 years, 8 months and 17 days. At the age of 11 he, with his parents, moved to Lenawee county, this state, where he grew to maturity. Five years of his manhood were spent working in a tile mill. On April 4, 1886, he was united in marriage with Ida Berkebile, and to this union were born seven children, three boys and four girls, two of the girls having gone home in their infancy to await father's coming. Their early married life was spent near the old home, where they by hard labor saved enough to purchase a small farm, where they moved to the farm south of Beaverton, where their son, Clayton, now lives. Soon after coming to this county he began assisting others to locate, thus very materially helping in the settlement and development of this section. In all his dealing he strove to live above reproach and thus testify of Jesus Christ and His power to save. At about 16 years of age he heard the Savior's call and united with the Church of the Brethren. The church soon saw his honesty of purpose and called him first to the deacon's office, then to the ministry, and in 1914 he was ordained to the eldership. He was true to his family, true to his God. He leaves to mourn, his loving companion, three sons, two daughters, his aged father and mother, five brothers and two sisters and a multitude of friends far and near for whom he sacrificed even the comforts of life that he might be a blessing. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Beaverton Presbyterian church, Rev. Wade of the M.E. church, W.B. Neff and P. Arnold of the Brethren church, and Henry Kreulen officiating. In the afternoon the last tribute was paid in the Church of the Brethren, Elder Neff preaching the sermon, with Elders Arnold and Kreulen assisting. Regardless of the stormy weather large crowds of friends attended the services. Interment at Dale cemetery.
