James William McKimmy died at the home of his son, Ottamar McKimmy in Beaverton on Saturday July 5, his 91st birthday anniversary. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Butman Brethren church, with the Rev. E. S. Hollinger officiating. Burial was in the Dale Cemetery. Mr. McKimmy was born in Preston county, West Virginia, on July 5, 1856 and was the last living member of a family of 14 children. He married Miss Lucinda Margaret Fint in West Virginia in 1877. She passed away on July 13, 1938. About 64 years ago they moved to Lenawee county, Michigan and shortly afterward he was elected to the ministry in the Fairview Church of the Brethren. In 1898 he and his family moved to Coleman and through the efforts of Enos Crowell and David Mote he came to Beaverton and was the first minister to preach in this community. He held services in the Old Log school house , and later in the Knoxville school in Tobacco township, built in 1900. In 1902 he moved his family to Beaverton and was an active minister for over 50 years in the church which he helped build in 1905, and was a charter member. Funeral services were held from this Home church. He was the father of eleven children, three of whom died in infancy. Surviving are six sons, Edson of Hudson, Elmer and Lee of Detroit, Charles of Ludington, Ottomer and Jay of Beaverton; two daughters, Mrs. Elva Feltault of Pontiac and Mrs. Bertha Yager of Beaverton; 23 grandchildren and 25 great children and a number of nieces and nephews.
