Mrs. Josie B. Mercer, 87, of 2347 Dale Rd., Beaverton, died Wednesday, March 
25, in the Clare Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Paulding County, 
Ohio, Aug. 21, 1899, she had spent her lifetime in Gladwin County. She was a 
member of the Beaverton United Methodist Church. The former Josie Kintner, she 
was married to Vernon Mercer Sept. 13, 1919, in Clare. He preceded her in 
death Feb. 17, 1959.
   Surviving are 2 sons, William and James of Beaverton; 5 daughters, Mrs. 
Dorothy Baldwin of Bay City, Mrs. Dola Kleinhardt of Clare, Mrs. Donald (Mary 
Ellen) Brown of Midland, Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) Sharp of Beaverton and Mrs. 
Charles (Coralie) Cassiday of Thonotossa, Fla.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Bertha Miller 
of Luzerne and Mrs. Edna Diem of Gladwin; 24 grandchildren and 44 great 
grandchildren. A daughter, Betty Sutherland, died in November 1950.
   Services were held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton 
Chapel. The Rev. Janet Larner officiated and burial was in Dale Cemetery.
