M. Gordon Morris, 87, of Beaverton, died Friday, May 24, in Mt. Pleasant 
Community Hospital, following a short illness. Born in LaPorte, Mich., April 
8, 1887, he came to Gladwin County in 1909 and remained here for 9 years. The 
next 20 years, from 1918 to 1938, Mr. Morris lived in Bayport. Returning to 
Beaverton in 1938, he purchased the hardware store and operated it under his 
name until 1960 when he retired. he and the former Ada Belle Baker were 
married July 14, 1909, in Freeland, and she died August 30, 1950. Mr. Morris 
and Mrs. Della Mae Cottrell, of Beaverton, were married April 3, 1955, in 
Lansing. She preceded him in death July 8, 1973. Mr. Morris served as mayor of 
Beaverton in 1940-41, and was a member of the Beaverton F. & A.M. and the Bay 
City Consistory.
   Surviving are 1 son, Gordon D. (Bud) Morris of Beaverton; 3 daughters, Mrs. 
Harold (Pauline) Oak of Mt. Clemens, Mrs. Carl (Fern) Kunisch of Sebewaing, 
and Mrs. Thomas (Gayle) Smith of Sanford; 4 step-daughters, Mrs. Leon (Helen) 
Methner, Mrs. Ralph (Ola) Hildenbrand, Mrs. Marion Snyder, and Mrs. Margaret 
Woodruff, all of Beaverton; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
   Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home, in Beaverton, 
with the Rev. James Braid officiating and burial was in Dale Cemetery, 
Beaverton. A Masonic memorial service was held Monday evening.
