Gladwin County Record
Laverne Owens , 55, of Beaverton, Michigan passed away July 17 2003 at St. 
Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born Dec. 26, 1947 to Earl 
and Mathilda (Jerichow) Owens in Midland. Laverne retired as an instrument 
journeyman in 2002 after 26 years of service at Dow Chemical. He was a veteran 
of U.S. Air Force, having served in Vietnam. He married the former Linda 
Riggie on June 10, 1971 in Midland, and was a member of Christ Christian 
Church in Gladwin. 
Surviving besides his wife are sons Jonathan (Carrie) Owens of Beaverton, 
David (Kelly) Owens of Gladwin, Benjamin (Mindie) Owens of Gladwin, Peter 
Owens of Oklahoma, Michael Owens of Beaverton, and Jesse Owens of Beaverton; 
daughters Jeanie (Cory) Sellers of Beaverton, Lisa (Wesley) Hibbard of 
Illinois, Bethany Owens of Beaverton, Sharon Owens of Beaverton, and Sarah 
Owens of Beaverton; eight grandchildren; mother Mathilda “Tillie” Owens of 
Beaverton; sisters Marilyn Green of Mesa, Arizona, Elaine (Roger) Fruchey of 
Owaton, Minnesota, and Yvonne (Stephen) Balakovich of Coleman; and several 
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers: 
Orville and Darrel. 
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Beaverton Baptist Church 
in Beaverton with Pastors Tim Terhune, Dave Mead and Harold Owens officiating. 
Burial took place in Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery. Visitation was held at 
the church on Saturday, July 19. Memorial contributions may be made to Voice 
of the Martyrs. Arrangements were handled by Hall Funeral Home.
