BOY NEARLY LOSES HIS LIFE IN EFFORT TO SAVE THE GIRL. A sad accident came to the home of D. M. Paxton, city diaryman at Beaverton, Tuesday evening, June 30, at 8 o'clock, when their 10 years old daughter, Beatrice, accompanied by two of her playmates, was drowned. The children went to the swimming pool in the river below the dam known as Ross flats. In wading about the unfortunate child stepped into a deep hole and disappeared. Her little companions went to her rescue out were unable to aid her, then gave the alarm. Marlin Methner, a small boy, hearing the alarm plunged in and brought her to the surface, but was unable to bring her to shore on account of the drowning girl fowling him several times which nearly cost him his life. In the mean time a general alarm was given and the power plant closed down to lessen the depth of water in the river at the scene of the accident, and the hole was dragged. The body was recovered after an hour's diligent work and taken to her parent's home. All efforts of the local doctors to restore life were fruitless. The funeral will be held from the parents' home in the city, Friday, July 3, at 2 p.m., Rev. Burt officiating.
