D. M. PAXTON PASSES AT HIS HOME HERE

   Funeral services were held this afternoon for Dempster M. Paxton, 74, who 
passed away at his home here Sunday evening, following a seven-year illness. 
He was born in Ohio, Sept. 14, 1880, and came to Gladwin County in 1902. Demp 
as he was affectionately known by his many friends; settled in Beaverton adn 
lived there for 25 years, serving as deputy sheriff and city councilman.
   In 1928 he was elected Gladwin County sheriff and served in the office 
until 1932. He moved form the sheriff's quarters here to the present home at 
the west city limits in 1933, and operated a small business until 1939, when 
he retired. Mr. Paxton was married to Miss Mabel Powell on Jan. 16, 1897, in 
Ohio. She preceded him in death in 1947.
   He is survived by six sons, Gaylord of Coleman, Cecil of Flint, Carl of 
Moorehead City, N.C., Doyle and C.W. , of Gladwin, and C.D. of Flint; six 
daughters, Mrs. Beulah Holland of Ovid, Mrs. Mildred Knight of Flint, Mrs. 
Zella Knight of Manistique, Mrs. Ruth Fortner, Mrs. Doris Kigar and Mrs. Viola 
Lennon, of Gladwin; three brothers, Russell and Dewey, of Clare, Clifford of 
Beaverton; two sisters, Mrs. David S. Ross of Beaverton, and Mrs. Ransey 
Busicle of Grover Hill, Ohio. A son and daughter are deceased.
   Services were held at the home at 1:00 o'clock and at the Gladwin Methodist 
Church at 1:30 o'clock, with the Rev. John Scott officiating. Interment was in 
the Beaverton cemetery.
