Peterson was born January 13, 1859, in Danville, Illinois, and died May 27, 1938, at the age of 79. The first years of his wife were spent at Danville and then his family moved in a covered wagon to South Haven, Michigan. The new home was in virgin timber, but they were true pioneers and knew all of the prevations and hardships that fall onf such. On April 11, 1895, he married Miss Florence J. Mattice of Coloma, Michigan. To them were born four children, three of whom are still living. Laura May was born October 11, 1896, and died September 11, 1899; Ralph M. was born November 9, 1901 and Harold J. and Herbert R. were born July 29, 1904. The family then left South Haven and spent a short time in New Mexico, Illinois, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Galesburg, Michigan. Leaving Galesburg in the Spring of 1913 they came to Beaverton and have lived here since except for six months in 1920 spent in Hartford, Michigan. Mr. Peterson was an inverate farmer and was happiest when engaged in planting gardens, farm corps and trees, and watching them grow and come to fruit. He belonged to no church but was always loyal to his family and friends and tried to bear with those who disagreed. He was buried in Lakeview cemetery in the city of South Haven overlooking that beautiful body of water named after the Commonwealth he loved so well. His wife, Florence, and his sons, Ralph an Herbert, live on the farm three miles southeast of Beaverton. Harold, his wife and little daughter live at 645 Piper St., Flint. He leaves one niece, Mrs. May Rich, of South Haven, and a host of friends.
