RACKEL Hazel M. Rackel, 67, well-known Beaverton hairdresser, died early Tuesday morning, July 22, in the Mildand Hospital following a long illness. A lifetime resident of Beaverton, Mrs. Rackel was born on March 22, 1902. She owned and operated Hazel's Beauty Shop for about 40 years. Mrs. Rackel graduated from Beaverton High School in 1920, and attended college at Mt. Pleasant where she received a teacher's certificate. She taught at the Dale and Knox schools. After attending beauty school in Flint, she opened her beauty shop in Beaverton. The former Hazel Raymond, she was married to William Rackel. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1938 and daughter Evelyn died on Feb. 25, 1938, both of typhoid fever. Two brothers, Walter and Wesley, also preceded her in death. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Clara Raymond, of Beaverton; one niece and one nephew and five great nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. from the Miner-Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Browne will officiate and burial will be in the Beaverton Cemetery.
