Rau, 80, of 215 S. Antler St., Gladwin, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the Gladwin Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in South Whitley, Ind. April 8, 1905, he had spent his lifetime in Gladwin County. Mr. Rau was a sales clerk, farmed and was a lay minister. He was a member of the Skeels Baptist Church. Mr. Rau and the former Lela Quellette were married Aug. 26, 1928, in Beaverton. She died Nov. 16, 1971. He then married Alma Reinhardt June 19, 1973, in Gladwin. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Allen of Gladwin and Lynn of Beaverton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Bud (Ruth) Campbell of Gladwin and Mrs. Dennis (Gloria) DeGuise of Midland; 10 stepchildren, Nora Heath of Chesaning, Ruby Briggs of Swartz Creek, James and Fred Buzzell of Beaverton, Susie Bilow of Standish, Florence Burgess of Gladwin, Francis Buzzell of Algin, Ill., Alice Taylor of Rockford, Robert Council of Grand Rapids and Bill Council of Flint; 5 sisters, Grace Ward and Elma Rau of Gladwin, Vida Arnold of Holland, Fay Lamphier of Grand Rapids and Alice Ward of Midland; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded him in death. Services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Sisson-Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Locher officiated and burial was in the Dale Cemetery.
