Scoby, 81, of 2007 Dale Rd., Beaverton, died Wednesday, March 20, at a local nursing home following a brief illness. Born in Fulton County, Ohio, January 15, 1893, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. He was the son of Edward and Alice Kemer Scoby and was a farmer until his retirement. From 1922 to 1930, he was employed in Flint at the Buick factory and as a motorman in the streetcar system. He and the former Mildred Nelson were married June 17, 1914 in Gladwin County. Mr. Scoby served as Tobacco Township clerk and on the Beaverton School board of education. He was a member of the Dale United Methodist Church and of the Beaverton F. & A.M. Surviving are his wife Mildred; 2 daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Kelley of Elsie and Mrs. Viola Chandler of Lompot, Calif.; 2 sons, Gerald of Gladwin and Norman of Richmond; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A son, John, died May 21, 1969. Services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Zina Bennett officiating and burial was in Dale Cemetery. A Masonic memorial service was held Friday evening at Hall Funeral Home.
