On Dec. 8, 1872, she was united in marriage with Henry F. Shaffer of that place. Their union was blessed with one daughter who died in infancy, and four sons. They resided in Elkhart 16 years and then moved to Allegan county where they lived 15 years. In April 1903 with her husband and son Justy she came to Dundas Corners, Gladwin county, where she passed from this life Dec. 15, 1921, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 28 days. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband and four sons, D. P. of Battle Creek, W. S. of Holland and John and Justy of Tobacco township, a sister, Mrs. Foltz of Elkhart, Ind., besides many other relatives and friends. Who seeks for heaven alone to save his soul. May keep the path but will not reach the goal. While he who walks in love may wander far. Yet God will bring them where the blessed are. Her many friends gathered Saturday, Dec. 17, to pay their last tribute. Rev. Preston officiated and a quarette of Beaverton high school pupils also gave words of comfort in the three beautiful songs they rendered. Mrs. Shaffer had been in poor health for a number of years, but only during the last year was she unable to do her own work. She was much beloved by all who knew her, especially the children who always found in her a sympathic friend.
