John W. Shears, 59, of Gladwin, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 at MidMichigan 
Regional Medical Center-Midland after a long illness. Born Sept. 21, 1937 in 
Gladwin, he had previously lived in Chicago, Ill. He had been employed by 
Johnstrud Trucking, Iowa, retiring in 1996 after 4 years. John married the 
former Rosalee Hughes, Feb. 2, 1958 in Vermillion, S.D.
   Surviving are four sons, Skip of Gladwin, Scott and Shane of Iowa Falls, 
Iowa, and Shawn and wife Carnelia of Wichita, Kan.; five brothers, three 
sisters, three grandchildren, Skyler, Shawn and Christina Shears. A memorial 
service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel 
with Rev. Ed Abbott officiating.
