Gladwin County Record
Douglas P. Smith , 35, of Sanford, Michigan passed away suddenly July 31, 2002 
in Bay City, Michigan. 
He was born May 14, 1967 to Merle and Beverly (Gower) Smith in Bay City, and 
worked as a laborer for Monitor Sugar Company in Bay City. He was a Midland 
County resident since 1995, having previously resided in Gladwin. Douglas 
married Tilitha Haines-Smith on Feb. 14, 1996 in Midland. 
Surviving are his wife, Tilitha Haines-Smith of Gladwin; son, Amos Smith of 
Gladwin; daughters, Sarah Smith of Midland and Terina Haines of Gladwin; 
parents, Merle and Beverly Smith of Estey; sisters, Connie Shannon of 
Beaverton, Anita Green of Tennessee, Brenda Eddy of Gladwin, and Sue Schaefer 
of Beaverton; brothers, Brian Smith of Beaverton, John Smith of Beaverton, and 
Kevan Smith of Sanford; and several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl Ann Smith. 
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Hall Funeral Home in 
Beaverton with Rev. Jim Walters officiating. Burial took place at Billings 
Township Cemetery in Beaverton.
