Ethel Elizabeth Smith, 88, of Rhodes, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1995, at 
the MidMichigan Regional Medical Center in Midland. She was born May 2, 1906, 
in Arenac County to Calvin and Clare (Riggs) Moore.  Mrs. Smith lived most of 
her life in the Estey area.  She married Ivan Smith on April 5, 1924, in 
Midland.  He passed away Aug. 30, 1985.  She is survived by eight children, 
Viola Smith of Rhodes, Lawrence (Pat) Smith of St. Ignace, Millard (Adeline) 
Smith of Midland, Earl (Gertrude) Smith of Rhodes, Merle (Beverly) Smith of 
Rhodes, Margie (Tom) Valley of Hope, Thelma (Dave) Cole of Rhodes, and James 
(Salley) Smith of Rhodes; 37 grandchildren; 65
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Moore of Texas and Oliver Moore of 
Florida; and two sisters, Marjorie Speigel of Florida and Doris Bauder of 
Midland. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Smith in 1978; a 
grandson, Bill Smith on June 5, 1994; a brother; and six sisters.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the Sisson Funeral 
Home in Gladwin. The Rev. Curtis F. Gordon will officiate, with burial in 
Billings Township Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home today from 2-9 
p.m. and Friday from 9-11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart 
Association of Michigan.
