Ralph married his wife Martha (Taulbee) Smith on November 15, 1941. Ralph served his country in WWII in Germany from September 1944 until October 1945. He was wounded in the battle of the Bulge. Ralph worked for General Motors of Flint for 30 years and retired in October of 1974. He moved to Beaverton in November 1974 where he resided until he passed away. He attended Living Hope Assembly of God in Albright Shores. Ralph is survived by his wife, Martha Smith of Beaverton; son John Smith of Big Rapids and his children Allen and Marci; son Wayne (Donna) Smith of Brown City and their children Wayne, Jr. and Debra; son Ralph, Jr. (Sandra) Smith of Waterford and their children Ralph III, Annette and Nikki; son James Smith of Beaverton and his daughter Kristine; daughter Judy Pleiness of Farwell and her children Thomas, Kimberly, Shannon and Crissy; daughter Wanda (Tex) Hughes of Millington and their children Cara, Rachel and Sarah; daughter Cynthia (Clare) McPherson of Beaverton and their children Michael and Todd; daughter Teresa (Bruce) Hopkins of Macomb and their children Lukas, Bruce Jr., and Ashley; grandchildren Brenda, Robert, Dallas, Scott, Traci and Timothy; several Great grandchildren; and son-in-law Doug Clark of Benton, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his daughter Barbara Clark; granddaughters Michelle Smith and Heather Horten; brother George Jr.; and Sue Smith. A funeral service took place Saturday, June 5 at Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin, with Pastor Roy Glasgow officiating. Burial was at the Billings Township Cemetery in Beaverton.
