Vernal Staley, 71, of 141 Saginaw St., Beaverton, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the Gladwin Area Hospital following a long illness. Born in Midland County on February 7, 1910, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. He was a research machinist for Dow Chemical Co. for 36 years until retiring in 1965. He then worked in the purchasing department at Robinson Industries for 10 years. Mr. Staley and the former Thelma Phillips were married June 25, 1929, in Coleman. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Loren of Lapeer; 3 daughters, Mrs. Dale (Bonnie) Lower of Midland, Mrs. George (Donna) Jones of Beaverton and Mrs. Richard (Kay) Henry of Gladwin; one brother, Bernard of Coleman; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ardis Robinson and Mrs. Sandra Fassett of Coleman; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
