Helen Sterling, 17-year-old girl of Beaverton, met her death Wednesday morning at 12:30 from a dose of carbolic acid administered by her own hand while cutter riding the night before accompanied by a young man whom she had been keeping company with. They had been to Gladwin and during the evening made a visit to the office of the Farmers' Home, where the girl visited while the young man was making the rounds of the city. On the way to Beaverton she opened a bottle, drained the contents, and exclaimed, "See what I have done!" They were on the road several miles from the city, and the young man spurred on the horse and made a quick trip to Beaverton, where the girl was staying at Lee Perry's and going to school. She had become unconscious in the cutter on the way home, and was carried to her room when they reached the house. Doctors Pierce, Sturge and Tiffany were called, but it was too late for remedies to be of avail. The deadly drug had done its work, and life soon became extinct. The girl was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sterling of Billings, who were notified and came at once, being very much grieved. An inquest was held before Coroner Pierce Wednesday morning. Prosecuting Attorney Shaffer and Sheriff Sisco being in attendance. The evidence disclosed the above facts, and jealousy appeared to have been the cause of the rash act. A verdict of intentional suicide was rendered.
