PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS
   
   Mrs. Betty Jane Sutherland, 24, passed away Saturday, November 25, at the 
Leila Post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek, after a two years illness. 
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 2 p.m., from the Beaverton Methodist 
church with the Rev. Donald Sailor officiating. Burial was made in Dale 
cemetery. Mr.s Sutherland was born November 30, 1925, in Saginaw, the daughter 
of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Mercer, of Beaverton. On October 4, 1947, she was 
married to Hugh W. Sutherland, of Gladwin. She attended the Beaverton 
Methodist church and the Beaverton schools and graduated in 1943 from the 
Beaverton high school.
   She leaves her husband, Hugh; one son, William Hugh, 3 1/2 years old; her 
father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Mercer, of Beaverton; five sisters, 
Mrs. Dorothy Baldwin, of Bay City, Mrs. Dola Kleinhardt, of Clare, Mrs. Mary 
Ellen Brown, of Midland, Mrs. Barbara Jean Shreeve, of Midland, Miss Cora Lee 
Mercer, of Beaverton; two brothers, James Mercer and William Mercer, of 
Beaverton, and grandmother, Mrs. Lucetta Kintner, of Beaverton.
