Tarzwell, 96, of Beaverton, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Stratford Village Nursing Home of Midland. Born Oct. 5, 1903, in Bay City, she was the daughter of Arthur and Effie Eyre. Gladys married Benjamin F. Tarzwell, June 10, 1925 in Bay City. He preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1973. Gladys and Ben moved to Beaverton in 1945 and owned and operated the Beaverton IGA store until 1952 when they moved to Edenville and operated the Edenville IGA store until 1954. Gladys worked for Knepp’s clothing store in downtown Midland in the late 1950s to 1966. Upon retirement she moved, with her husband, to Houghton Lake where they made a home for several years. After her husband’s death, she moved into Beaverton Manor where she lived until October 1999, when she entered Stratford Village. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Beaverton and a lifetime member of the Beaverton Eastern Stars. Gladys loved to bowl, work in her flower garden, play cards and drive her car. Surviving are one son, Robert and wife Billie of Beaverton; one daughter, Mary Lou and husband Millard Kent of Midland; five grandchildren, Randy, Rodney, and Scott Tarzwell, and Jennifer Kent-Bryant and Carter Kent; eight great-grandchildren, Steven, Sara, Nicolas and Andrea Tarzwell, Jordon, Haleigh and Benjamin Kent-Bryant, and Shea Kent; and one brother, Merle Eyre of Bay City. She was preceded in death by twins, a son and daughter; three brothers, Floyd, Kenneth, and Alvin; and one sister, Helen, all of Bay City. Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton, with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial was in Dale Cemetery, Beaverton.
