Tremain was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, June 6, 1839, and died in Tobacco township, Gladwin county, Feb. 16, 1921, being 81 years, 8 months and 10 days of age. He came to Boston when 18 years old and there met and married Miss Lexie Cruickshank, April 27, 1864. After eight years of happy married life, she died, leaving him with two little girls, one of whom is still living, Mrs. Gertrude Marks of Morenci, Mich. Dec. 11, 1880, he married Miss Alice Noble of Swanton, Ohio, who came with him to Tobacco township, Gladwin county, to make a home. She was a great sufferer for years, and left for that better home July 3, 1912. To this union was born one son, James W. He leaves besides these six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He became a member of the Baptist church, while a young man and was always a faithful helper in all that was good. He was always genial and kind and made many friends wherever he was. He took great pleasure even to the last in keeping well informed on the topics of the day. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by both relatives and friends.
