Voorheis, 71, of 4467 Bay Rd., Gladwin, died suddenly Tuesday, April 18, 1989, in the Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Ariz. Born in Flint, Dec. 10, 1917, he moved to Gladwin County in 1985 from Flint. Mr. Voorheis was an office clerk for Chevrolet Manufacturing in Flint until retiring in January 1977, after 24 years. He was treasurer of the Fountain of The Sun Little Theatre Group and a charter member of the East Valley Church of the Brethren in Mesa. Mr. Voorheis and the former Grace Shock were married Nov. 26, 1948, in Beaverton. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Richard of Palatine, Ill, and Larry of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Judith) Sanders of Port Huron; 3 brothers, Harry of Lake Wales, Fla., Clifford of Edenville and John of Orange Park, Fla.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Anna Kinzel and Clare Voorheis of Farwell and Mrs. Bessie Johnson of Flint; and 7 grandchildren. A brother, Erwin and a sister, Leatha, preceded him in death. Services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Michael Clark officiated and burial was in the Tobacco Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the East Valley Church of the Brethren or the American Lung Association.
