TWO-CAR COLLISION FATAL TO COUNTY MAN

   A Beaverton man, Leland "Hap" Walton, 76, of 2750 Knox Rd., died Wednesday 
afternoon in the Clare Osteopathic Hospital from injuries sustained in a 
broadside collision in Isabella County, according to Mt. Pleasant State 
Police. 
   Troopers said the incident occurred at the intersection of Saginaw Rd. and 
the Mt. Pleasant business loop on M-10 about 1:45 p.m. when Walton's vechicle 
started across the intersection and was struck broadside by Gary VanBlarcom of 
Freeland. VanBlarcom was not injured in the crash, they said.
   Witnesses to the accident said Walton pulled in front of VanBlarcom without 
warning, and troopers later determined the Beaverton man was at fault. Walton 
received head injuries at the crash and was taken to the hospital by 
ambulance, where he later died. His obituary appears on page 2. Gladwin County

LELAND (HAP) WALTON

   Leland (Hap) Walton, 76, of 2750 Knox Rd., Beaverton, died Wednesday, Sept. 
12, in the Clare Osteopathic Hospital of injuries sustained in an auto 
accident. Born in Illinois on May 9, 1903, he came to Gladwin County 42 years 
ago. Mr. Walton and the former Ruth Dorsey were married on July 6, 1928, in 
Kansas.
   Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Donald and William of 
Beaverton; one daughter, Mrs. Glen (Nora) Searfoss of Beaverton; one sister, 
Mrs. Gladys Finch of Gladwin; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A 
daughter, Dorothy, preceded him in death.
   Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin 
Chapel. The Rev. Mark Moore officiated and burial was in the Beaverton
