He was 80 years old. He was united in marriage to Barbara Landis in 1880 and who died in 1884. Of this union one child survives, Alpha G. Ward of Piqua, Ohio. On August 16, 1885 he was united in marriage to Martha Hollinger in Dark county, Ohio, and resided in that state until 1910 when he moved his family to Michgian and has resided in the Beaverton locality for the last 30 years. Born to this union were 11 children---six boys: William, John F., Jacob L., Jesse C., George Z., and Ralph R.; also five daughters, Ella Ward, Bessie Snyder, Rella Wright, Madonna Shaffer, and Emma Fairchild. Surviving him is his brother, Frank of Houston, Ohio; a sister, Alice Deeter, of Dayton, Ohio; all of his children, except on daughter Ella, who died in infancy; 27 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. John W. Ward united with the Brethren Church in his youth and remained a faithful member until his death.
