CHRIS WELKER

   Christian (Chris) Welker, 67, well known Beaverton area resident and member 
of the Gladwin County Board of District Commissioners, died suddenly Tuesday 
morning, Aug. 26, at his home at 33 75 McCulloch Road. Born in Gladwin County 
on August 27, 1907, he was retired from W. H. Hall and Son Lumber, Beaverton, 
where he had been employed for 21 years.
   Mr. Welker was first elected 6th District Commissioner from Beaverton City 
and Beaverton Township in 1970. Previously, he had served as Beaverton 
Township Clerk from 1942 to 1970. He was a member of the Beaverton F. & A.M. 
Lodge No. 453 and served as master in 1952-53. Mr. Welker was also a member of 
the Gladwin Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3292, the Northern Coon Hunters 
Club, and the Gladwin County Sportsman's Club. He and the former Leona Jean 
Miller were married in December 1937 in Indiana.
   Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Ann) Adams of 
Beaverton; two sisters, Mrs. Christine Jenkins of Beaverton and Mrs. Ann Grady 
of Troy; one brother, Frank of Clare; and three grandchildren. Services will 
be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home in Beaverton. Burial will 
be in the Beaverton Cemetery.
