John A. Whitmer, 86, of 3841 Long Rd., Beaverton, died Sunday, April 17, at 
his home after a short illness. Born in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, Oct. 20, 1901, he 
had spent his lifetime in Gladwin County. Mr. Whitmer was an electrican for 
Dow Chemical Co. and retired in 1966 after 38 years. He was a member of the 
Beaverton Church of the Brethren, the Farm Bureau and a 4-H leader for 40 
years. Mr. Whitmer and the former Flossie Myers were married Oct. 24, 1926, in 
Detroit.
   Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Olan and Daniel of Beaverton; 2 
daughters, Mrs. Milton (Lillian) Tolly of Hope and Mrs. James (Barbara) 
Andrist of Beaverton; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by a son, Robert, April 13, 1955, and 2 brothers and 2 
sisters.
   Services will be held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. from the Church of the 
Brethren. The Rev. Michael Clark will officiate and burial will be in the Dale 
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or the Hospice of Gladwin 
County.
