MARY ELLEN YORK Mrs. Mary Ellen York, 76, for many years a resident of Beaverton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Ferrel of West Grout Tuesday, Oct. 2, after a long illness. Mrs. York was the daughter of Luther and Louise Riker. She was one of a family of three children and was born in Moscow township, Hillsdale county, February 2, 1858. Her parents left Hillsdale county while she was a little girl. The family moved to Gratiot county and later to Isabella county. Mary Riker was united in marriage to Z. M. York on October 2, 1887. Their marriate license was the second issued in Isabella county. Mr. and Mrs. York came to Gladwin county in October 1892. When Mrs. York was 12 years of age she was converted and united with the M. E. church. At the time of her death she was a member of the M. E. church in Beaverton. Mrs. York broke up housekeeping but spent most of her time with her daughter, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Ferrell of West Grout. She leaves to mourn her loss a son, A. E. York of Detroit and three daughters; Mrs. Florence McCain of Pontiac, Mrs. Amy Davis of Midland, and Mrs. Hazel (Charles) Ferrell of West Grout. She also leaves then grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the West Grout Methodist Episcopal church on Friday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., Rev. Grant L. Jordan officiating. Burial services were held in the cemetery at Beaverton.
