A. ZIMMERMAN Austin A. Zimmerman, 83, former Beaverton businessman, died Wednesday at his home in Beaverton after an illness of two months. Born July 20, 1877, in Clinton, he came to Beaverton in 1915 from Amble where he was postmaster and operated a general store for ten years. He was well-known in the county, having operated a general store in Beaverton City for 30 years, retiring in 1946, and also served as city clerk of Beaverton for 22 years He was a life member of Beaverton F. & A.M. Lodge No. 453. On June 8, 1908, he was married to Hanna Mercy Bass. She preceded him in death on June 9, 1941. On Septmeber 17, 1944, he married Mrs. Carrie Tompkins Haviland and she died March 22, 1953. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Keeler, of Beaverton; two step-sons, Keith Haviland of Englewood, Calif., and Charles Haviland of Muskegon; five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Beaverton Presbyterian Church Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Aaron Hyde officiated and burial was in Beaverton Cemetery under the auspices of F.& A.M. Lodge No. 453.
