Donald Powley

   Donald Grant Powley, 62, of Nokomis, Fla. and formerly of Gladwin, died
Friday, Sept. 9, in the Veteran's Hospital in Tampa, following a long illness.
Born in Gladwin County on February 9, 1915, ot Levi and Saraah Jane Powley, he
attended the McClure grade school and graduated from high school in Pontiac
after his parents moved there. Mr. Powley was employed at Fisher Body and later
at Willow Run Bomber Plant until he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific.

   Following his discharge, he farmed in Butman Township and was active in
community affairs and served as school director at Hockaday and township clerk.
In 1954, he moved to Alpena where he owned and operated Powley's Plumbing and
Heating. He was the Presque Isle Township supervisor for 7 years. Mr. Powley was
past master and secretary of the Rogers Lodge No. 493 of Rogers City and was
holder of the Gold Badge from the Grand Lake Fire Department. He was also a past
patron of the Eastern Star Chapter 501 of Rogers City.

   In 1972, he moved to the Nokomis, Fla. area where he was employed by A-1
Plumbing, Inc. until December 1976. Mr. Powley was married to the former
Lorraine Yeager in December 1934. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son,
Lee of Alpena; one brother, Elroy of Gladwin; 2 sisters, Mrs. Gladys Gauvin of
Santa Anna, Calif. and Mrs. Cassie Peters of Gladwin; and 3 grandchildren.

   Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev.
Helena Egts officiated and burial was in the Ridge Cemetery. A Masonic service
was held Monday evening by the Gladwin Lodge No. 397. Memorials may be given to
any veteran's organization or to the Masonic Home in Alma.
