TOBIN Hotel Tobin is one of the leading hostelries of Wakefield, situated in the southern portion of the village and one block from the Northwestern depot. It is equipped with a [sample] room where the best liquor, wines and cigars are sold. The hotel is scrupulously clean and pains are taken to cater to strangers in a hospitable manner. For several years Mr. Tobin has conducted this business and under his management it has prospered. Jas. Tobin was born in Wausburn county, Wis., April 24, 1862. At the age of 18 [28] years he accepted a position with the Northwestern Survey and helped lay out the line from Antigo to Rhinelander. He reunited at Rhinelander two years and again took up the old work and the survey was made from Rhinelander to Ashland and then from Ironwood to this village where he left the survey and has since been one of our best citizens. In 1885 he, with other parties, opened a grocery store, meat market and saloon, and in 1892 started in hotel business. He married Dec. 2[3], 1887, to Miss Elizabeth McGinley of Wausaw. To them have been born eight children, six sons and two daughters.
