Aug. 11, 1971 Woodruff Man Dies in Crash Woodruff - A young Woodruff man died in Lakeland Memorial Hospital here Tuesday morning from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash late Sunday morning, according to the Woodruff Police Department. James St. Germaine, 24, incurred the fatal injuries when his car struck the rear of a pick-up truck parked along the curb us US-2, just south of 2nd Ave. in Woodruff. His death brings to 16 the number of person killed in traffic accidents this year in the area comprising Gogebic and Ontonagon counties in Michigan and Iron, Vilas, Oneida and Ashland counties in Wisconsin. There were 18 traffic deaths in the six-county area at this time last year. St. Germain, 24, an employe of Huntsein and Burneister Inc. of Minneapolis, was born March 18, 1947, at Hayward. He saw service in South Vietnam. Milliary services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Community Church, Lac du Flambeau, and burial will follow in the Community Cemetery. Bolger Funeral Home, Minocqua, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors besides his wife, Loona, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James St. Germain Sr.; four sisters, Germain Chapman, Iris, Fern and Audrey St. Germain; three brothers, Wendell, Robert and Wayne, and grand-mother, Mrs. William Philoman, all of Lac du Flambeau. Authorities said the impact of the mishap pushed the truck over 100 feet down the highway, causing it to break a stop sign along the way. Both vehicles were badly damaged. St. Germaine was found on the pavement, where he had landed either from being thrown from the car or falling from it. The steering wheel of his car had been broken by the impact of his body. Woodruss police said the motor of the pick-up was running and persons were in it at the time of the crash. However, the name of the owner of the truck was not available at the police department today.
