DEAL, 89, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. --------------------------------------- TRAVERSE CITY - Grace Lillian (Kennedy) Deal, 89 years old, passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Grace was born in Leelanau County Nov. 8, 1913, the daughter of Loucelous and Louisa (Mahn) Kennedy. In 1968, she married John Deal, who preceded her in death. She was a longtime resident of Traverse City. Grace was a devoted Christian and an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also was a member of the Cedar Run Ladies Aid and enjoyed making quilts for those in need, as well as for the Habitat for Humanity houses in the Traverse area. Grace was very proud of the fact that she had been employed at the airplane plant at Willow Run during World War II. She also had worked for many years for the Michigan Secretary of State office in Lansing. She was a loving caregiver and enjoyed cooking dinners for family and friends. Grace enjoyed playing board games and making crafts. Grace is survived by her sister, Annabelle Rowe of Traverse City; her stepchildren, John (Siglenda) Deal and Stanford Deal, both of Ohio, Russell Deal of New Mexico and Jeannette (Keith) Bihn of Ohio; her granddaughter, Wendy Deal; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Grace was preceded in death by her two sisters, Gertrude Wagg and Harriet Ruegsegger and five brothers, Miles, Don, Howard, Ted and George. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery at Long Lake. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church and continue until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to The American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Traverse City, MI 49684, or to a charity of one's choice.
