Born in Traverse City on June 10, 1924, to Fred and Lydia (Brimley) Riggs, she lived in the Traverse City area all of her life. She married Ernest W. Gutzka on June 15, 1942, in Traverse City. Beatta was a homemaker who enjoyed her flower gardens and crafts. Survivors include her husband, Ernest; five children, Marlin (Carolyn) Gutzka, Ernest (Vivian) Gutzka, Darlene (John) Treadwell, Marcia (Ron) Lautner and Penny (Dan DeVincent) Pinkowski - all of Traverse City; her half-sister, Dorothy Riggs of Harrison, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Bonnie; her grandson, Jeff Lautner; two sisters; and two brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. The Rev. Marvin Rosa will officiate Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Born June 28, 1918, in Traverse City, he was the son of William and Eda (Reidel) Gutzka. On June 15, 1942, in Traverse City, he married the former Beatta Riggs. A lifelong resident of Traverse City, Ernest was a farmer and also worked at the Traverse City Iron Works. He farmed with horses until 1994, enjoyed dancing and playing euchre. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by five children, Marlin (Carolyn) Gutzka, Ernest (Vivian) Gutzka, Darlene (John) Treadwell, Marcia (Ron) Lautner and Penny (Dan DeVincent) Pinkowski - all of Traverse City; nine grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatta; parents; three siblings in infancy; a daughter, Bonnie, at 3 months; a grandson, Jeff Lautner; and a sister, Hazel Keaton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev.
