LaFreniere Died October 23, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Elizabeth F. LaFreniere, 80, of Traverse City, died peacefully at home Mon- day, October 23, 2000, after a short illness under the care of Munson Hospice and her loving niece, Bunny Johnson, and sis- ter Lois. She was born September 23, 1920, at the family home in Tra- verse City, the daughter of Earl and Emma (Wheelock) Carmien. After attending County Normal and Central Michigan University, she taught school at Summit City and East Bay in Traverse City. She worked as a social worker until her marriage to Mark Norton in 1946. He pre- ceded her in death in 1958. At that time she returned to college at CMU, earning a Masters De- gree in Education. She taught at Pullen Elementary School in Mt. Pleasant until 1961, when she married Joseph (Louie) La- Freniere and moved to Midland. She then taught at Cook Ele- mentary School until her retire- ment in 1981, when she returned to Traverse City. Her husband Louie preceded her in death January 6, 1999. She had been active in MaMe- NeSewong Garden Club, Retired Teacher�s, and Bethlehem Lu- theran Church and the church circle. She was a former mem- ber of Long Lake Friends Church in Traverse City and Trinity Lu- theran Church in Midland. She will be very sadly missed by her daughters and sons-in law, Sue (Norton) and Chuck Smith of Manistee, and Sally (Norton) and Dr. David Dehnke of Vancouver, WA. She was a loving grandmother and great- grandmother to Charles Smith II, his son Cameron, and daughter Chelsea Klemens of Traverse City, Christie (Smith) Stypa and her sons Christopher and Mi- chael of Manistee, Melissa (Smith) Meikle, her husband Andy and their daughter Kaylee of Alden, and Mike Dehnke of Bellevue, WA and Tedd Dehnke of Moscow, ID. Also surviving are sisters Lois Johnson and Delight Farah, many special nieces and neph- ews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday at the Reynolds- Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City with the Rev. Dr. David Gabel officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township, following cremation. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
