     BESSIE P. LAUTNER, 78, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday morning 
at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in 
Traverse City.

     TRAVERSE CITY - Bessie P. Lautner, 78, of Traverse City, went home to be 
with her precious Lord on Thursday, Aug. 23.
      Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Hart, she was the daughter of Percy and Carrie 
(Smith) Sawdy. In 1944, she married Mervon R. Salenski, who preceded her in 
death in 1985. In 1986, she married the Rev. Russell Lautner, who preceded her 
in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Sawdy, 
Edna Adams and Dorothy Sawdy; and her brothers, Fred, George, Johnny and Wilbur 
Sawdy.
      Having moved to Traverse City around 1947, Bessie and Mervon raised their 
family in the Long Lake area. Born again in 1967, she was an active member of 
Interlochen Bible Church. Bessie enjoyed crafts, her flower garden, her 
children and grandchildren, but serving her Lord always came first.
      She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Salenski of Traverse City; 
sons, Phillip Salenski of Maple City, David (Valerie) Salenski of Jefferson 
City, Mo., Timothy (Susan) Salenski of Copemish; step-son, Vern (Jane) Lautner 
of Florida; step-daughter, Vernetta (Art) Burk of North Carolina; fourteen 
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services will be held at Interlochen Bible Church on Monday at 11 
a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Craner officiating.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City 
on Sunday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
      Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to The Bessie P. Lautner Memorial 
Fund.
