Moore Died May 24, 1999 TRAVERSE CITY - Leona V. Moore, 95, died Monday at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. Born Oct. 21, 1903, in Hackleburg, Ala., she was the daughter of Thomas and Manora (Wiggington) Thorpe. On Jan. 12, 1921, in Marion County, Ala., she married Dewey Moore. A homemaker, Leona had lived in Traverse City for the past six years, after moving from Hackleburg. She had lived in Flint and Grand Blanc for most of her life. Leona was a former member of the Hackleburg Baptist Church and an avid fisherwoman and hunter. Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Bud) Bender of Traverse City; six grandchildren, Susan (Jack) Seaman of Cedar, Bradford Grambush of Atlanta, Ga., Valerie Moore of Grand Blanc, Gregory (Gwen) Moore of Flint, Grafton (Sharon) Moore Jr. of Holly, and Goeffrey (Jan) Moore of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Edna Pearce of Hackleburg; a bother, Eckles (Bertha) Thorpe of Hackleburg; and nine great-grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewey, on July 2, 1955; a son, Grafton, in 1981; and six brothers and sisters. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Linnwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township; Pastor Bruce Sheets will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Green Lake Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
