"Rick" Rokos, 71, of Traverse City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Rick was born in Traverse City on June 14, 1933, the son of Frank and Helen Morovic Rokos. He married Yvonne Allgood in May of 1979 in Omaha, Neb., and she preceded him in death in June of 1990. Rick proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He had been stationed in Michigan, Nebraska, the Far East, Alaska, Texas, Greenland, Labrador and England prior to his retirement following 24 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. After retiring from the military, Rick was a truck driver for Commercial Terminal Services of Omaha, Neb., as well as a bus driver for the Omaha Public School system, retiring from those positions in June of 1996. He then returned to Traverse City and was employed by The Traverse City Area Public Schools as a bus driver, a position he dearly loved and held until the time of his death. Rick is survived by his daughters, Rebecca "Goldie" O'Neal and her husband, Robert W. Moller of Texas, and Kristi Smith of Colorado; a granddaughter, Courtney J. Sims of Virginia; his four-legged grandchildren, Cheyannie and Cody of Texas and Madison of Colorado; nephew and nieces, Ronald and Nancy Egeler and Sandy Hillis; a very special nephew and great-niece, Frankie and Pat, as well as many other great-nieces and great-nephews. Rick is also survived by his many friends and colleagues at TCAPS and the bus garage. In addition to his wife, Yvonne, Rick was preceded in death by his parents; and by his siblings, Howard, Edward, Albert, Clarence, Carl, Anna Egeler, Esther Kopchia and Elizabeth Schlagel. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Dr. Homer Nye officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the Honor Guard of Cherryland VFW Post 2780. Burial will take place in the spring at Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township.
