He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Traverse City, the son of Harvey and Viola (Lapland) Steele. Harvey was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy Seabees. He worked as a plumber for many years for Local #85 in Saginaw and Local #639 in Traverse City until his retirement in 1989. In his spare time, Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Most of all, Harvey loved being with his family. On July 5, 1944, in Beulah, Harvey married Greta A. Moorman, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Harvey "Lanny" (Margaret) Steele III of Interlochen; daughter, Sheryl Watson of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wesley (Opal) Steele of Interlochen, Duane (Betty) Steele of Onsted and Jerry Steele of Interlochen; one sister-in-law, Ruth (Wendell) Vipond of Williamsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Amy Leipzig and Jo Ewing; one brother, Richard Steele; one son-in-law, Gary Watson; and two grandchildren, Amy Jo and Chad Watson. Visitation will be held today, Oct. 13, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett- Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice.
