Born April 2, 1921 in Baldwin, he was the son of the late James and Gladys (Curtis) Wood. On Aug. 3, 1946, he married the former Harriett F. Shisler in Traverse City. Howard was a veteran and he proudly served his county in the U. S. Army during World War II. A resident of Traverse City since 1935, Howard formerly lived in Baldwin. He was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church, Traverse City Eagles Club, Farm Bureau and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Howard worked 17 years for Koenig Construction, ran a Beef Farm for 22 years and later was self -employed as a carpenter. He was the best husband, father, grand-father and a better friend could not be found. He is survived by his wife, Harriett F. Wood of Traverse City; son, David (Jan) Wood of Traverse City, two grandsons, Randall Wood and Jeffrey Sablack; three brothers, Kenneth, Vernon and Fredrick Wood and one sister, Maxine Donick . Howard was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Tamara Williams officiating. Cremation will follow. In remembrance of Howard, memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church or to Munson Hospice House.
