"Clay" Yahr, 44, of Traverse City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning at his home, following a long illness. Born Aug. 22, 1959, in Traverse City, he was the son of Marion A. and June E. (Gray) Yahr. On Sept. 8, 1979, in Traverse City, he married the former Nancy Kaye Lautner, his wife of 24 years, who survives. Clay owned and operated Clay Yahr Construction and was known and respected for his quality workmanship. He was a very active member of Bayview Wesleyan Church and enjoyed the fellowship the church had to offer. Clay served for a short time as an associate pastor with the Rev. R.J. Lautner at Grawn United Methodist Church and Lake Ann United Methodist Church. His greatest joy was serving others through his music, called Clay Yahr Music Ministries. He performed throughout the state in various churches for over 20 years and recorded three Christian albums. Clay enjoyed music and camping. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and had a deep commitment to serving God. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Clay is survived by a daughter, Kristy and a son, Bradley, both at home; parents, Marion and June Yahr of Traverse City; two brothers, Phil (Sharon) Yahr and John (Linda) Yahr, all of Traverse City; three nieces, Lisa, Amber and Joni; mother-in-law and her husband, Marcella (Lautner) and Norm Balthaser of Brooksville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Jan Lautner of Portage; and brother-in-law, Kevin Lautner of Midland. He was preceded in death by a nephew, David Yahr in 1999; and his father- in-law, Marvin Lautner. Funeral services will be held at Bayview Wesleyan Church on Thursday, Sept. 18, at noon, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Jack Steenbergh will officiate. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township. In remembrance of Clay, memorials may be directed to the Clay A. Yahr Trust Fund, which has been established through Bayview Wesleyan Church, 720 Wayne Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Hebrews 6:19 states: "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul both sure and steadfast," reflects the faith Clay lived by. He would want us to know "The Anchor Holds!"
