Born March 22, 1933, in Bufffalo, N.Y., he was the son of George Thomas and Charlotte M. (Cramer) Childs. A 1950 graduate of Timon High School, he also attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School and Church - all in Buffalo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. Survivors include one son, Michael William Childs; one daughter, Susanne Michele (Rich) McKee; one sister, Charlotte M. (Richard) Wheaton; one brother, Robert P. Childs; his stepmother, Mary Childs; his ex-wife, Vibeke Lichtman; three grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and great- nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George in 1972; his mother, Charlotte in 1950; his brothers, George in 1949, and James in 1992; and his nephew, Richard George Wheaton Jr. in 1978. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Gerald Micketti will serve as celebrant. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a Scripture service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
