"Jerry" White Died June 9, 2005 INTERLOCHEN - Geraldine M. "Jerry" White, 79, of Interlochen, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Formerly of Mt. Clemens, she has been a resident of Interlochen the past 17 years. She was a long-time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was known as the "church hugger." She was very active in the church choir and for many years ran the food pantry, where nobody ever left without a hug. She attended Denby High School in Detroit and went back to school, graduating from Clintondale High School in Mt. Clemens in 1978 at the age of 52. For 30 years she worked for Brogren Insurance Agency in Birmingham, retiring in 1987. Born Dec. 8, 1925, in Detroit, she was the daughter of William and Magdalena (Heier) Maier. In 1949, in Detroit, she married Leo Lee "Whitey" White, who died in 1953. Jerry is survived by her daughter, Sandy Schefke; and granddaughter, Amy Schefke of Interlochen. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Maier; and sister, Beulah Kraus. Services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy Mowry officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 8 p.m., and again on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Interlochen. Memorial contributions may be directed to the House of Hope. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
