12 Jan. 1940 - Pioneer Woman Taken by Death - Mrs. Hannah Reynolds, pioneer 
resident of the Grand Traverse region, died Thursday night at her home, 1215 
Cass street, following a year's illness. She was 88 years old. --- Born in 
Illinois on August 2, 1852, she came to this region at the age of four, with 
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vandervort, and has since lived in this 
community . She was united in marriage to James Reynolds on October 23, 1873 in 
Traverse City and to this union were born four children, Mrs. Minnie Smith of 
Traverse City and Edward of Honor. Albert and James preceded their mother in 
death. --- Left to mourn their loss besides her son and daughter are six 
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren , two sisters, Mrs. Frank Umlor of 
Traverse City and Mrs. Martha Smith of Central Lake, one brother, John B. 
Vandervort of this city, other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors. --
- The body was taken to the Sampson Funeral Home to remain until Monday, when 
services will be held at the funeral home at 2:30. Burial will be made in 
Oakwood cemetery.
